Wills, Hayden
Description : Born in Lismore, a country town of 20,000 people in Northern New South Wales, Australia, Hayden Wills came to writing this novel through a circuitous series of life events that took him to live and work in Thailand in the mid 1990’s. Having sold a successful chemical business in Australia, and subsequently losing it all in a fit of delusional property investment, he came to work in Thailand at the height of that country’s economic boom, and just prior to the financial crisis that gripped much of Southeast Asia in 1997.His upbringing in the laid-back countryside of small-town Australia and subsequent fifteen years spent in Melbourne and Sydney did little to prepare him for the stark cultural contrast of the thriving and often chaotic metropolis of Bangkok. However, he soon found an irresistible charm in the city, country, and especially people of his new found home. The Asian financial crisis eventually put an early end to this short lived love affair, but he still considers Thailand to be one of the most enchanting and intriguing countries in the world, and a place to which he will always long to return. The Asian Tsunami of 2004 brought Hayden and his wife back to Thailand in 2005, when they spent a year working in small villages along the coast of the Andaman Sea to help rebuild lives after the devastating loss suffered by so many. After having then lived, worked and traveled throughout the United States, they now reside and work in Mumbai, India. The next chapter will be sailing around the world on a sailboat, eventually returning to the Phang Nga Bay in their beloved Thailand. Hayden’s passions in life continue to be sailing, painting, and writing. Proceeds from the sale of ‘Thailand - From Nowhere to Nee’ will benefit the work of the MattCare Foundation, founded in memory of son Matthew, whose life ended tragically and all too soon in August 2008. Matthew was able to read this story and shared with his father many of his sentiments about Thailand as a result of his own travels to the country to study Buddhism in the 90’s.
